Jollibee Starts a Happy New Year for 49 poor families

by admin on Feb.12, 2010, under Community Building, Heroes Build / GK1MB

“We, the Kapitbahayan, thank God for making you an instrument so that we can reach our dream to live in a decent house,” said Antonio Burdeos during the turnover of 49 GK houses by Jollibee Foundation last January 29, 2010.

It was a day full of hope for the new residents of GK Mahay village in Butuan City who were given the keys to their new homes, a beautiful gift to receive at the dawning of a new year. The gift of concrete hope was truly welcomed after all those years living on the brink of tragedy, residing along the Agusan Riverbanks where water levels would rise so high during the rainy season. Considered to be a dangerous area for families living along the river banks, the poor families needed to be relocated to a safer area and Jollibee Foundation responded to the call.

“We hope that by relocating these families to the GK village, they will not suffer from the same tragic experience of the Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng flood victims from Luzon,” shared Jollibee Foundation Executive Director Gisela Tiongson.

“This is indeed a wonderful way of ushering the new year as we give new hope for a brighter future to our GK villagers. “Bagong taon, bagong bahay, bagong buhay para sa ating mga Kapitbahayan members,” she said. (New Year, New House, New Life for our Kapitbahayan members).
